Government to enhance Borderline security
The Karakubis community and the area Member of Parliament for Ghanzi South, Mr Motsamai G. J. Motsamai extended their request to the Minister for Defence and Security Mr Thomas Kagiso Mmusi for a Kgotla meeting.
The raised common problems for Karakubis and the neighbouring villages are damaged border line fence and stock theft; both locally and border crossing crime. To address the stock theft crime, Kgosi Kamogelo Baateleng and the Village Development Committee (VDC) Chairperson Mrs Masego Mbish, did request the Minister to increase the number of Police officers in the village, to resource the Police Stations and also to arm the Police officers; as those who commit the crime are mostly armed.
In response to the outcry of Kgosi and the community, Minister Mmusi acknowledged that the damaged border line fence is a national concern to be addressed with Minister for Lands and Water Affairs, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila; also engaging the neighbouring countries. Meanwhile, the border patrols will be enhanced through the deployment of Botswana Police Special Support Group (SSG) and the use of drones (unmanned aerial aircraft). He informed them that the Botswana Police Officers are armed to fight crime but not in all crime situations, what should be done is for Police officers to be more visible and resourced to be able to be resourceful when in need.The Minister did plead with the public to curb from the acts of cutting off the borderline fence for their personal use after it has been renewed.
Honourable Minister Mmusi acknowledged the Karakubis Primary School achievement of being the best achievers of the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) within the Sub District; the Botswana Police Service will arrange a trophy handover session as an inspiration to both Teachers, the Community and learners.
The area Member of Parliament Mr Motsamai, thanked the Honourable Minister for honouring the invite and appreciates the effort from the Ministry of Defence and Security in fighting against crime. He mentioned that the area Police stations are working together with the Farmers Committee and the community, besides the resources and accommodation challenges.
After the Karakubis kgotla meeting, the Honourable Minister, area Member of Parliament, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Acting Deputy District Commissioner and other Government officials went to Tsootsha to appreciate the Police Station state of condition; and also passed by the Agricultural Show held at Charleshill.
