GOVERNMENT OF BOTSWANA FACILITATES VOLUNTARY REPATRIATION OF ZIMBABWEAN NATIONALS
GABORONE, 6th May 2020: The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation wishes to inform that the Government of the Republic of Botswana, and the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe, will embark on another joint voluntary repatriation exercise to aid Zimbabwean nationals who have requested to be assisted to return home.
The exercise will be conducted from 6th to 8th May 2020. The repatriation will be by road and Zimbabwean authorities will receive the returnees at the Ramokgwebana Border Post as was the case with the recent voluntary repatriation exercise conducted on 16th April 2020.
The two Governments recognise the current challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and its far-reaching adverse impact on livelihoods, and are therefore committed to work closely together on the voluntary repatriation of Zimbabwean nationals as and when required. The two Governments are also committed to ensure the safe and humane repatriation of the concerned nationals.
The Ministry further wishes to clarify that in addition to the Government of Zimbabwe, the Government of Botswana continues to collaborate with other governments to facilitate the voluntary repatriation of their citizens from Botswana. ______________________________
