Nijel Amos was our best bet at the 2016 Rio Olympics, however, there was a big casualty as the 2012 Olympic silver medalist was eliminated after a horrendous 1:50.46 7th place showing in heat 6. As it is the norm with Batswana, the young man was called all sorts of names on social media.People were blaming his performance on his lifestyle, but our golden boy was unfazed.

Amos, who ran 1:41.73 as a teenager to snag silver in London, and he came into Rio as the number 11 seed at 1:44.66. In his last two races, he’d won the African champs in 1:45.13 and then run his seasonal best of 1:44.66 for 4th in London. Looking at his age,this young man still has a lot to give, we are pretty confident that he knows where to correct next time.
