Police brutality is going to be the order of the day in our country, since it is a new method used to curb certain immoralities. Just 2 days ago, unemployed young people were walloped by the police for a peaceful demonstration in front of parliament. Now Francistown Mayor, Sylvia Muzila a woman with a sharp tongue has asked the police to beat up prostitutes roaming the streets of the 2nd city Francistown.
This statement that is making rounds on social media was said last week Saturday when she delivered a key note address at Sefalana Hyper Customer Day. The city mayor issued a chilling warning to local prostitutes that they would be beaten if they did not stop trading.
“I have learnt that prostitutes are chastised in Gaborone. Why can’t we do the same in Francistown in order to prove that prostitution is not welcome here?” she said. Switching her focus to the ghetto’s male population, the Mayor criticized the men who use prostitutes, many of whom have families at home. We understand the negatives that prostitution brings, but beating them surely is definitely not the best solution.
