France And Portugal Reach The EURO 2016 Finals
The finalis finally here, and soccer lovers around the globe must be excited. Portugal and France will compete in the UEFA EURO 2016 final at the Stade de France in front of a global television audience of millions of fans.
France, the hosts, have won the European Championship twice in their history, in 1984 and 2000, while Portugal’s best ever finish was as runners up in 2004. Uefa, European football’s governing body, elected to expand the competition to 24 teams attracted criticism in the weeks that followed but their decision has allowed a host of romantic fables to unfold – such as those told by Iceland and Wales.
England’s exit was as disheartening as it was predictable for their fans but, despite security fears and the threat of hooliganism rearing their head at the beginning of the competition, France 2016 has since become the festival of football that is always promised to be.
