Festivals Billed For This Year At Stadia Will Go On As Planned

Minister of Yoouth Empowerment, Sport And Culture Development Thapelo Olopeng has said that public events that has been planned for this will still happen at the agreed venues.
A Minister Thapelo Olopeng said during a press briefing that contrary to the tone of the directive all music festival booked for this year will continue. The directive was instructive in indicating that all festivals at stadia and public places have been banned.

The Minister said the chaotic scenes at the National Stadium were never the intention of the GIMC promoter, but certain individuals who decided to behave in a dangerous manner. “This industry has the potential to change this economy around”. Olopeng said they have submitted a proposal to Cabinet in which they are trying to map the way forward, unfortunately he could not share much of the details with the media.

“If people behave the way they did and blame it on alcohol, then they must stop drinking,” he said.

Raggae group UB40, is expected to be playing at the national stadium in November.

The press briefing was also attended by Permanent Secretary to the President, Carter Morupisi.
