The National AIDS and Health Promotion Agency (NAHPA) deputy national coordinator, Mr. Batlhalefi Leagajang, has urged the public to prioritize screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), emphasizing that early detection and diagnosis can save lives.

Speaking during the SADC Healthy Lifestyle Day event in Goodhope, held under the theme “Risk Factors of Today are Tomorrow’s Diseases,” Mr. Leagajang stressed the importance of adopting healthier lifestyles to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses. The event aimed to raise awareness and encourage Batswana to make proactive health choices.

World Health Organisation (WHO) representative, Dr. Fabian Ndenzako, highlighted the global impact of NCDs, noting that diseases such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and chronic lung conditions account for 74 percent of deaths worldwide. He reiterated the need for preventive measures, including regular health check-ups, physical activity, and a balanced diet.

The event underscored the growing burden of NCDs and the urgency for individuals and communities to take action. Health officials continue to advocate for lifestyle changes that can help curb the rising cases of these diseases, ensuring a healthier population for the future.
