Hurricane Harvey, a category four storm, ripped through Texas over the weekend, with harsh winds and torrential rain leaving the southern state in ruins and many people without homes. A bevy of artists voiced their concern and support for Harvey victims, including Drake who penned a heartfelt letter on social media on Monday (Aug. 28), saying he was “devastated” by the aftermath of the storm and vowing to assist the victims as they recover.
“We are currently overseas in London and all I can think about is how devastated I am as I look at images of the damage Hurricane Harvey has caused. I am praying for the safety of all those affected. Houston has truly been a home to me over the last 8 years,” he wrote, shortly after hitting the stage in London with Giggs at Reading Festival and Boy Better Know for the collective’s BBK Takeover Festival.
Later in the post, Drake vowed to “assist the people of Texas in anyway we can and in the most immediate way possible,” and praised those who have already stepped up to help the hurricane victims. In a separate post, the “Blem” rapper posted a list of emergency numbers victims can call for relief.
“I encourage everyone to do what they can to assist the people of Texas knowing whatever effort you can make to help will go a long way.”
The Toronto rapper has long shown his admiration for the state, specifically Houston, where he’s held his Houston Appreciation Weekend since its inception in 2014. Outside of Drake, Beyonce, Meek Mill, Common and Kelly Rowland are just a few of the other musicians who have sent their love and support to the hurricane’s victims. Check out the posts below.
