Commissioner of Police Congratulates Chief Justice Gaolapelwe Ketlogetswe

In a demonstration of mutual respect and collaboration, the Commissioner of Police, Dinah Marathe, extended her heartfelt congratulations to His Lordship, Gaolapelwe Ketlogetswe, on his recent appointment as Chief Justice of the Republic of Botswana. This congratulatory message was conveyed during a courtesy call at Police Headquarters in Gaborone yesterday, January 29, 2025.

Strengthening the Bond Between Police and Judiciary

During the meeting, Commissioner Marathe acknowledged the longstanding and positive working relationship between the Botswana Police Service (BPS) and the Administration of Justice. She emphasized the critical role of the police as the first responders in the criminal justice process and reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering commitment to its duties within the justice system.

“The Botswana Police Service remains dedicated to fulfilling its obligations to the justice system and will continue to work closely with the Administration of Justice to ensure the fair and effective delivery of justice,” said Commissioner Marathe.

Chief Justice Highlights Collaboration

In response, Chief Justice Ketlogetswe expressed his gratitude for the recognition and underscored the essential role of the police in the Criminal Justice System. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the Police and the Judiciary to uphold the rule of law and ensure efficient and equitable legal processes in Botswana.

“Effective cooperation between the Police and the Judiciary is critical for ensuring that justice is not only done but also seen to be done. Together, we can build a stronger and more trusted justice system,” remarked the Chief Justice.

The Chief Justice was accompanied by the Assistant Registrar of the High Court, Mr. Mmoloki Sibanda, and the Principal Public Relations Officer, Ms. Tshepiso Jankome. Their presence further highlighted the spirit of unity and collaboration between the two pillars of Botswana’s justice system.
