CITY OF FRANCISTOWN LAUNCHES DISTRIBUTION OF COVID-19 FOOD RELIEF PACKAGES
The City of Francistown Council, this afternoon launched the commencement of distribution of Covid-19 Food Relief Packages, in a small brief ceremony held at Tatitown Kgotla in the presence of the District leadership.
The launch was done at Tatitown taking into cognisance that the Leseding Social & Community Development Extension Office, is the first extension office to complete the mass household assessments in the Francistown jurisdiction. The Leseding office covers wards of Botsalano and Itekeng, consisting of locations of Whitecity, Riverside, Aerodrome, Bluetown, Kgaphamadi, Maipaafela and Area W.
In his short address, the Town Clerk of the City of Francistown, Lopang Pule, highlighted that as of 22nd April 2020, more than 15000 households had been assessed and more than 10000 qualifying to be rationed accordingly. He also denoted that door to door assessments of the close to 29000 plots of Francistown were still on-going, to ensure the whole city is assessed as per requirement.
Each benefiting household will receive a basket of 24 items in varying quantities such Maize Meal, Bread Flour, Cooking Oil, Milk, Lotion, Bathing Soap, Washing Powder and Meat just to mention a few.
The first location to benefit from the delivery of the Covid-19 Food Relief Packages is Area W, as such, it must be noted that the City of Francistown Council is now running a concurrent exercise of mass assessing, as well as delivering food relief packages to those already identified as qualifying. The Council has dispersed 70 Social Workers to ensure all those adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic are assisted duly.
