Citizen Economic Empowerment Policy to Enhance Lives

His Honour Vice President Mr. Slumber Tsogwane has voiced strong support for the Citizen Economic Empowerment Policy, a significant initiative designed to bolster the capacity of Botswana’s citizens to own, manage, and control economic resources. This policy represents a strategic effort to ensure that the benefits of national economic development are more widely distributed among the populace.

During his remarks at the Gaborone Solar PV Plant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) event held at Hotel 430 this morning, Vice President Tsogwane emphasized the importance of this policy in promoting economic independence and enhancing the quality of life for Botswana’s citizens.

He highlighted the integration of this policy with the country’s broader energy strategy, notably through the development of eight grid-tied solar PV plants. These projects are key components of the Integrated Resource Plan and are expected to contribute 26 megawatts of renewable energy upon their completion in 2026. This significant addition to Botswana’s energy infrastructure is anticipated to support the country’s transition towards more sustainable energy solutions while simultaneously creating opportunities for local economic growth.

Vice President Tsogwane congratulated and encouraged selected Batswana Independent Power Producers (IPPs) involved in these solar PV projects. He urged all stakeholders to support these IPPs and assist them in realizing their power purchase agreements. By doing so, the Vice President believes that the initiative will not only advance Botswana’s energy goals but also reinforce the economic empowerment of its citizens.

The Citizen Economic Empowerment Policy, in conjunction with these renewable energy projects, reflects Botswana’s commitment to fostering economic inclusivity and sustainability, ultimately aiming to improve the lives of its citizens through greater control over their economic resources and opportunities.
