Business Botswana has called on its members to adopt a strategy of staggering their production schedules and increasing activity during off-peak hours. This move, according to the organization, is aimed at reducing the disruptions caused by power outages, which are most often experienced during peak hours.
Tsholofelo Mpaphi, the Head of Policy and Research at Business Botswana, emphasized that staggering production would alleviate the strain on the national grid, ensuring that businesses can continue operations without major interruptions. “This approach will help reduce the negative impact of outages, especially during times when electricity demand is at its highest,” said Mpaphi.
In addition to the call for staggered production, Mpaphi also advocated for an accelerated transition to solar power solutions. As an alternative energy source, solar power has the potential to reduce businesses’ reliance on the national grid while also contributing to environmental sustainability. “By encouraging businesses to embrace solar power, we can provide a sustainable and reliable alternative to grid power, helping businesses become more energy-resilient,” Mpaphi added.
The advocacy for solar energy comes at a time when Botswana, like many other countries, has been facing challenges with power outages and electricity supply. By promoting the use of solar power, Business Botswana hopes to encourage a shift toward more sustainable and self-reliant energy solutions within the business community.
This move to stagger production and invest in solar energy solutions aims to foster more resilient, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient business operations across the country.
