The Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) is set to begin recruiting young people to participate in an Agri-Business Incubation Hive (INC HIVE) program at a 163-hectare farm in Mankgodi. The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, aims to equip participants with practical agricultural skills and business acumen to create sustainable agribusiness ventures.
Dr. Israel Legwaila, the program coordinator, highlighted that the INC HIVE program will provide hands-on training in piggery, broiler production, horticulture, and other agricultural enterprises. What sets this initiative apart is that, for the first time, it will be open to young people across Botswana, rather than being limited to BUAN graduates as in previous years.
The program’s primary objective is to empower young entrepreneurs by giving them the necessary tools and knowledge to establish viable agricultural businesses, ultimately contributing to job creation and economic growth in Botswana. The initiative aligns with national efforts to promote youth employment and self-sufficiency through agribusiness development.
By extending this opportunity beyond BUAN graduates, the university and the Ministry of Youth are broadening access to agricultural training, ensuring that more young people can turn farming into a profitable and sustainable career path.
