BPS DONATES 77th HOUSE
Botswana Police Service through District No. 4 (Lobatse) donates the 77th house in Magoriapitse village today (02/03/2023).
Speaking at the official handover of the house to Mr Maduo Mere, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Phemelo Ramakorwane stated that of housing donations by the Police to the less privileged is in line with the organisation’s social responsibility policy as well as the government’s initiative on poverty alleviation.
Furthermore, the Acting Commissioner said the gesture by the police recognises the need to attain social inclusion and to reduce poverty with the latter having a negative bearing on the Police efforts of fighting crime.
On other issues, Mr Ramakorwane said BPS continues to employ strategies that engage the various sectors of the community so as to promote the spirit of self-policing and strong collaborations between the Police and their stakeholders. He went on to appeal to members of the community in Lobatse and periphery to join the suitable crime prevention forums in their localities.
The Acting Commissioner said initiatives such as Kgomokhumo which targets mainly stock theft, is one such strategy where the Police, Farmers Associations and members of the community have joined hands to fight stock theft, stating that the initiative is already bearing fruits.
On his welcome remarks, Kgosi Moses Letlhogonolo of Magoriapitse said he was very thankful to Botswana Police Service for having housed one of the residents of his village. He also extended his gratitude to all other government departments, business community as well as the community who contributed one way or the other towards the completion of the project.
For his part, the recipient, Mr Mere said he was humbled by such a gesture from the police, stating that it was not every day that you would receive a gift of that magnitude from a stranger. He assured the gathering that he will take of the house.
The house was constructed at the tune of P75 000.00.
