BPL Has Signed A Memorandum Of Understanding With La Liga

The Botswana Premier League (BPL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Spain’s La Liga.

La Liga Africa Director Antonio Barradas explained through the agreement, Botswana will benefit from the Spanish League’s ‘Pass the Ball’ initiative.

The project will see some of Spain’s best coaches come to Botswana to help train the country’s development coaches, including both males and females.

“We will invite BPL representatives to our offices in Spain to bench mark on how we run our football and we will cover all the expenses. I think this will help to improve their league and make the difference in Africa. Today we are giving the BPL 1, 000 balls which will be used for their grassroot development. There are lots of surprises to happen and our teams will have friendly games in Botswana,” revealed Barradas.

From a local perspective, Botswana Football Association (BFA) 2nd Vice President Marshlow Motlogelwa described the ‘history-making’ partnership as a significant milestone in the BFA’s efforts to develop football at grassroots level.

“This will create limitless opportunities for collaboration. We are looking at growth and developing football in Botswana and are keen on learning from La Liga who have been making great strides in developing sport not only in Spain but the whole of Europe and worldwide.

“La Liga has some footprints in Africa having a project in Ethiopia,” said Motlogelwa, adding that he believes this deal will give local players exposure across the world and ultimately help improve the Zebras FIFA ranking, which is currently 149 in the world.
