Botswana stands for children’s rights
Botswana stands for children’s rights and has acceded to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified and domesticated it. This was said by His Excellency President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi as he met the founder of “ The dream, speak up, stand up” DUSUSU organization Ms. Zuriel Oduwole who paid him a courtesy call.
Ms Oduwole who is based in the United States of America is best known for her development work across the globe, advocating for girls’ education. Her advocacy has since made her in the summer of 2013 at the age of 10, the youngest person to be profiled by Forbes.
The President said the country’s education policy does not discriminate and more effort has been made to promote equality, the result being equal education for both the boy and girl child.
President Dr Masisi however spoke strongly against transgenerational relationships which are “ a great concern and unhealthy.”
DESUSU visits Botswana after awarding the former Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Ms Anna Mokgethi an award last year for showing consistency in work towards girls education and gender development.
