Botswana Police Hosts Crime Prevention Workshop to Strengthen Community Safety

The Botswana Police Service National Crime Prevention Coordinating Unit has launched a week-long workshop aimed at equipping Crime Prevention Coordinators with the necessary skills to enhance service delivery across the country. The workshop, which commenced on March 3, 2025, at the Botswana Police College, brings together officers from various police stations to improve crime prevention strategies and community engagement.

In her keynote address, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Police Public Partnerships, Cynthia Setilo, commended the coordinators for their commitment and selflessness. She emphasized their critical role as a bridge between the police and the community, urging them to design effective crime prevention programs and strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders. Setilo also highlighted the importance of understanding the socio-economic factors that contribute to crime, calling for a comprehensive approach that includes education, outreach, advocacy, and policy changes to promote positive social norms.

Welcoming the participants, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Training, Dipontsho Pharithi, praised the National Crime Prevention Coordinating Unit for its dedication to enhancing crime prevention strategies. She encouraged the officers to remain proactive in addressing emerging crime trends, particularly those driven by technological advancements that make policing more complex.

The workshop is expected to enhance the capacity of Crime Prevention Coordinators in tackling crime effectively, ensuring that law enforcement remains adaptive and responsive to evolving security challenges. Through knowledge-sharing and strategic planning, the initiative aims to strengthen community safety and reinforce collaborative efforts between the police and the public.
