Netball seems to be one of those sporting codes that we excel at. Last night our girls beat 17th in the world raked Singapore 42-38. The 4 difference gap started with a lead by Botswana at the first quarter which ended with a 12-7 score in our favor.
The two sides were then neck and neck in the next two quarters. Singapore coach Ruth Aitken gave credit to Botswana, saying: “They were very strong throughout the court both on attack and defense. Their aerial play was quite spectacular, and they’re a very well-balanced team so they’ll be pleased to have got the win.”
In last year’s tournament, Singapore also lost to Botswana at the group stage, but beat the same opponents in the third-place play-off. We had lost 43-46 to Zambia in their opener on Sunday and will next face 15th-ranked Papua New Guinea today, while Singapore will play against 18th-ranked Canada. Well done girls,we are behind you all the way.
