Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Botswana’s Members of Parliament attending the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, continue to actively engage in key committee meetings, contributing to discussions on critical global issues.
The IPU comprises various bodies with specific mandates, and Botswana’s delegation is participating in strategic deliberations that align with the country’s commitment to peace, security, and sustainable development.
Botswana’s Representation in Key Committees
- Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Dumelang Saleshando, is representing Botswana in the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development.
- Hon. Kenny K. Kapinga has been actively involved in the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security.
Key Discussions and Deliberations
The committees have focused on pressing international issues:
- The Standing Committee on Peace and International Security deliberated on the Role of Parliaments in advancing a two-state solution in Palestine. The discussions centered on the need for diplomatic solutions, parliamentary interventions, and ways to support peace efforts in the region.
- The Standing Committee on Sustainable Development examined Parliamentary Strategies to mitigate the long-lasting impact of conflicts, including armed conflicts, on sustainable development. Resolutions to Be Considered for Adoption
