Botswana was yesterday, 19th May 2020, at the on going virtual 73rd World Health Assembly, elected to serve in the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation for a period of three years.The Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Lemogang Kwape will serve as the substantive member of the Executive Board, and the Acting Permanent Secretary Ms Baile Moagi will serve as the alternative member.Botswana was elected together with Ghana, Guinea Bissau and Madagascar to be part of the African Member States representing the region in the board. Other member states who have been serving in the board are Burkina Fasso and Kenya.The main functions of the Board are to implement decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, advise and generally facilitate its work.We sincerely congratulate the appointment of Ministry of Health and Wellness to the Executive Board. The appointment demonstrates the confidence and trust that the World Health Assembly country members have in the Republic of Botswana.
