The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) officially welcomed 479 newly trained non-commissioned officers on Thursday after they successfully completed an intensive Private Basic Military Training course at Pandamatenga Base Camp. The recruits, who form Intake 82 of 2025, consist of 135 females and 344 males.

The passout parade was graced by the BDF Ground Forces Command and Joint Forces Commander, Major General Simon Barwabatsile, who commended the officers for their commitment and perseverance throughout the rigorous training. He urged them to uphold resilience and discipline, especially when operating in complex environments.

“A soldier should be of sharp mind, adapt to any environment, and be ready to be deployed wherever necessary,” said Major General Barwabatsile during the ceremony. He further emphasized the importance of maintaining high levels of physical fitness, mental agility, and loyalty to the nation.

The training program at Pandamatenga Base Camp is designed to equip recruits with essential military skills, including combat tactics, endurance drills, weapons handling, and strategic decision-making. The rigorous program prepares soldiers to face diverse challenges in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and responding to national security threats.

The successful completion of the training marks a significant milestone in the careers of the newly enlisted soldiers, who are now set to contribute actively to the defense and security operations of Botswana. The BDF continues to play a crucial role in maintaining peace, national security, and humanitarian efforts within and beyond the country’s borders.

As Intake 82 of 2025 embarks on their military journey, they are expected to uphold the values of patriotism, dedication, and service to the nation, embodying the principles that define the Botswana Defence Force.
