Botswana and UK Strengthen Ties in Higher Education Collaboration

The Minister of Higher Education, Honourable Prince Maele, recently held a meeting with His Excellency Giles Enticknap MBE, the High Commissioner of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, to discuss the enduring bilateral relations between Botswana and the United Kingdom. The meeting underscored the commitment of both governments to strengthening collaboration in the education sector.

Honourable Maele expressed gratitude for the support provided by the UK over the years, particularly through Commonwealth and Chevening scholarships, which have benefited many Batswana students. He also highlighted his interest in visiting Great Britain to benchmark in the area of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), an area he believes is crucial for equipping young people with relevant skills for the job market.

In response, High Commissioner Enticknap commended Botswana for its peaceful political transitions and reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to maintaining a strong partnership in higher education. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation with the Ministry to further enhance educational opportunities and capacity-building initiatives.

The meeting reinforced the shared commitment to expanding educational collaboration, ensuring that Botswana continues to benefit from knowledge exchange and institutional partnerships with the United Kingdom.
