Botswana and China have strengthened their bilateral ties with the signing of an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement this morning. The agreement was signed by Vice President and Minister of Finance, Mr. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, on behalf of Botswana, and Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, His Excellency Fan Yong, representing the People’s Republic of China.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vice President Gaolathe highlighted that since 2018, Botswana has received grants totaling over P1.1 billion from China. He noted that some projects have already been submitted for consideration under these grants, including the Legolo road in Gaborone and the Mmopane-Block 8 road. Letters of Exchange for these projects have already been signed, signaling progress in infrastructure development.
Ambassador Fan Yong reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Botswana in various sectors, stating that China is willing to share its development experiences to further strengthen the relationship between the two nations. He assured that China will continue to provide assistance where needed to promote economic growth and technical advancement in Botswana.
The signing of this agreement marks another milestone in the long-standing partnership between Botswana and China. It is expected to facilitate further investments and collaborative projects aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing economic development in the country.
