The Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) has announced an exciting opportunity for individuals and organizations passionate about creating vibrant platforms for local expression, information sharing, and cultural connection. Through its Expression of Interest (EOI) initiative, BOCRA is paving the way for licensing Non-Commercial Radio Broadcasting Stations (Community Radio Stations).

This unique initiative seeks to empower communities by fostering a sense of national identity through locally produced content while prioritizing their diverse cultural practices and interests. Here’s everything you need to know about this groundbreaking opportunity:

1. The BOCRA Mandate

BOCRA, established under the Communications Regulatory Authority Act [CRA Act No. 19 of 2012], is tasked with regulating communications technologies, broadcasting, postal services, and more. This initiative is part of BOCRA’s commitment to grow Botswana’s broadcasting sector in alignment with its statutory obligations.

2. The Purpose of the EOI

The EOI is not an application for a license but a preliminary step to:

• Assess interest and capability among potential applicants.

• Shape the future licensing process through planning and consultation.
