District leaders in the Bobirwa region have been called upon to unite and play a proactive role in driving Botswana’s transformation through inclusive and forward-thinking leadership. This call to action was made by the Minister for State President, Hon. Moeti Mohwasa, during the National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12) consultation meeting held today in Selebi-Phikwe.

Minister Mohwasa emphasized that the success of the upcoming national development plan depends on the full participation of local leaders and communities. He urged district leadership to engage all stakeholders—traditional leaders, youth, civil society, business owners, and the broader community—in shaping a plan that reflects the aspirations and priorities of the people.

“Transformation begins at the grassroots level,” said Minister Mohwasa. “We need to think boldly and act ambitiously. District leaders must step forward and be the champions of development. Only through collective action can we achieve the Botswana we all envision.”

He reiterated that the NDP 12 community engagement sessions are designed to ensure that citizens across the country have a voice in the planning process. These engagements will help identify key developmental needs and ideas that can be translated into practical policies and projects.

His Worship the Mayor of Selebi-Phikwe, Hon. Oageng Makgosa, expressed appreciation for the consultative approach adopted by the Ministry. He praised Minister Mohwasa for laying a strong foundation for the preparation of NDP 12, noting that such inclusive planning is vital for ensuring that the plan is representative and impactful.

Mayor Makgosa confirmed that the region has already begun preliminary discussions and said more engagements will follow to guarantee that local governments and communities contribute meaningfully to the national agenda.

The NDP 12 consultations mark an important phase in Botswana’s development trajectory, as the country seeks to build a more inclusive, resilient, and diversified economy. With strong leadership and active community participation, Botswana aims to craft a national plan that is both visionary and grounded in the lived realities of its citizens.
