The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards were free of controversy and full of powerful performances. From Beyoncé’s surprise stage re-creation of Lemonade to Britney Spears’ big comeback. The queen owned her performance and as usual did not disappoint.
Beyonce proved once again she is the contemporary rock star, and she used the MTV Video Music Awards stage to showcase her skills and outshine her peers. Beyonce won eight awards, including video of the year, and performed five songs from her visual album Lemonade in an epic 16-minute concert Sunday night that had the audience at Madison Square Garden in awe.
Queen Bey walked the red carpet with several of the women featured in the Lemonade visual album, mothers of gun violence victims among them. Midway through the show, Serena Williams introduced Beyoncé for an unexpected performance of several of her Lemonade hits.
