The Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has officially announced the release of the 2024 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results. This year’s results reflect a modest improvement in overall performance, with a higher proportion of students achieving credit grades compared to 2023.
Performance Highlights
The percentage of candidates obtaining credit grades (Grade C or better) has risen to 73.20%, up from 72.00% in 2023, marking a 1.30% improvement.
Notably, the percentage of candidates achieving top grades also increased:
- Grade A: Improved by 0.80%, rising from 20.30% in 2023 to 21.10% in 2024.
- Grade B or better: Recorded a significant increase of 2.20%, from 38.10% in 2023 to 40.30% this year.
This upward trend reflects the concerted efforts of educators, students, and stakeholders in the education sector to improve academic outcomes.
Candidate Participation
A total of 53,044 candidates sat for the 2024 PSLE. The results underscore the importance of early interventions and support to ensure students excel in foundational education, paving the way for their future academic and career journeys.
Moving Forward
The BEC expressed satisfaction with the slight improvement, emphasizing its commitment to further enhancing the quality of education and examination standards in Botswana. While progress has been made, the Council recognizes the need for sustained efforts to ensure even more significant performance gains in the coming years.
The 2024 PSLE results highlight incremental progress in Botswana’s primary education system. The improvements in credit-grade performance, particularly at higher levels like Grade A and Grade B, demonstrate the potential for continued growth in the sector. As stakeholders analyze these results, the focus remains on building a stronger foundation for the nation’s learners.
