BEC Introduces E-Marking

The Botswana Examination Council (BEC) has introduced electronic marking at Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (BGCSE) level and it is done simultaneously with the manual marking.

Addressing the media this morning, the BEC Chief Executive Officer Dr Moreetsi Thobega stated that the Council started with 9 components out of a total of 46. The nine components are English Paper 2, Science Double Award Papers 3 & 4, Commerce Papers 2 & 3, Accounting Papers 1 & 2 and Business Studies Papers 1 & 2.

Dr. Thobega said that the e-marking process is expected to be increased gradually in the final examinations to accommodate more components.

According to Dr Thobega, the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) marking is completed and results will be released on the 4th week of December, while the Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE) will be released the last week of January and the BGSCE third week of February.

Dr Thobega further stated that all the three examinations results have been processed through Malepa system since 2014 and the same will be done this year. Across all the three levels a total of 131 371 registered for examinations as compared to 130 952 candidates in 2021.
