The Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) Publicity Secretary, Lawrence Ookeditse says it has come to their attention that the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) led government wants to “eliminate” Khama.
According to Ookeditse, the raids that are going on currently at Khama’s residences are an effort by BDP government to find an excuse to lock up Khama. The grand plan is to reduce his influence ahead of 2024 polls, Ookeditse said. The government also plans to provoke him in order to kill him.
Ookeditse said through a Facebook post;
“The reckless strategy is clear: It’s said that they say they are going to arrest SKI. The intention is to show people that SKI is a person just like everyone. This, is an effort to reduce SKI’s influence going towards 2024 general election.
Their advisors say to win the next election, they need opposition unity not to happen, and they need a weaker BPF. In their minds, you weaken BPF by eliminating SKI or significantly eroding his dignity and influence. Arrest him, lock him up in jail so that he can be seen as a prisoner. They think this will erode his influence and standing.
It appears part of the strategy is even to provoke him so he resists and they have an excuse to eliminate him.
This is your government. This is Masisi at his best. This is political desperation of a ruling part when the end is near.
Do as you are thinking. Go ahead and mytyr him. Make him even more popular. But, be mindful that there is a country at stake and you do not own it.”
A few days back, BPF threatened to conduct marches locally and internationally should their patron, Former President His Excellency Lt. Gen. Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, be arrested.
