Infrastructure Development and Commitment to Quality

During the launch, Mr. Cross Kgosidiile, the Managing Director of BDC, emphasized the importance of Milk Afric in developing critical infrastructure for the dairy industry. He highlighted the successful establishment of dairy processing equipment and the local procurement of cattle. “This project represents more than dairy—it is a testament to our dedication to quality and sustainability,” Kgosidiile remarked, underlining the commitment to ensuring that the dairy sector meets both local and international standards.

Innovative Farming Techniques

Mr. Botshelo Mokotedi, the Caretaker CEO of Milk Afric, shared insights into the innovative approaches being implemented in the project. These include advanced farming techniques such as artificial insemination and embryo transfer, which are designed to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of dairy farming. Mokotedi stressed the project’s local impact, noting that it aims to foster partnerships with farmers and create job opportunities in Lobatse, thereby contributing to the community’s economic development.

Addressing National Demand for Milk

In his keynote address, Honourable Mmusi Kgafela, Minister of Trade and Industry, addressed the critical need to boost local milk production, which currently meets only 15% of the national demand. He urged for further investment in the sector to expand production capabilities and improve processing facilities. Kgafela’s call to action highlights the urgency of developing Botswana’s dairy industry to ensure self-sufficiency in milk production and reduce reliance on imports.

Alignment with Vision 2036

Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Honourable Molebatsi Molebatsi, concluded the event by reiterating the project’s alignment with the government’s Vision 2036 strategy. This vision aims to build a self-sufficient dairy sector that not only supports local consumption but also opens avenues for export. Molebatsi’s comments reinforced the government’s commitment to nurturing the agricultural sector as a vital component of Botswana’s economic landscape.

As Milk Afric embarks on this exciting journey, it stands poised to catalyze growth in Botswana’s dairy industry. By fostering innovation and excellence, the project represents a significant advancement for the agricultural sector. Furthermore, it serves as a beacon of hope for economic growth, job creation, and entrepreneurial opportunities in the region.
