Pula Steel seeks to recruit inspired individuals who are looking for challenging jobs to join it’s team for the following position of assistant accountant.

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the planning, organizing and management of a major accounting functional area to ensure the accurate and timely preparation of accounts and financial statements in accordance with international accounting practices and standards, and company policies and procedures.

Requirements

Oversee the execution of the various transactional processing activities in the business unit and ensure the compliance with sound accounting practices.
Manage and control the allocation of funds to ensure adherence to approved budgeted expenditure.
Finalization and accumulation of financial information to make adjustments, close and balance the financial records at period end (income statement, balance sheet, cash fl ow statement).
Analyses production, revenue and expenditure budgets to produce budgeted financial statements for presentation to executive management.
Capture asset information and assist with maintenance of asset register.
Analyse information by using appropriate accounting techniques to determine and recommend various alternatives to ensure viability and profitability.
Implements capital accounts, procedures and systems.
Provide cost forecasts by determining time frames for debt collection and creditor payments.
Reviews supplier reconciliations by comparing company ledger postings to the supplier’s statement for correctness.
Conducts surprise checks on the company petty cash by physically counting petty cash and examining the paid vouchers by comparing with the cash balance in the ledger to ensure efficient cash management. Ensures conformance to the requirements of Botswana’s Tax Acts (VAT and Income).
Validates and verifies payroll input to be effected in the payroll.
Monitors and administers payroll system.

Qualifications:
Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), Degree in Accounting or equivalent qualification.

Experience:

At least Five years experience in a high production environment. Three years should have been at same level or better.
Good knowledge and experience of a computerized accounting system.
