We all know what is Apple’s biggest challenge right now. But suddenly the company has been hit by two new (and equally pressing) iPhone problems, which cause them to fail at their most basic function.
Trouble Calls For iPhone 7
Responding to complaints, Apple has posted a statement on its website confirming a number of iPhone 7 models feature a defective component on the main logic board. Affected devices will show a “No service” message even when cellular reception is available.
Affected units were made over a lengthy six-month period spanning production across China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao and the U.S. They can be identified with production numbers printed on the back of the phone, and eligible models are the A1660, A1780 and A1779.
To be eligible Apple requires you to have applied for the free repair within two years of the phone’s purchase date.
2. iPhone X Forgets To Be A Phone
Apple’s problem with iPhones operating as phones also extends to the iPhone X. The Financial Times reports:
“hundreds of owners have complained on Apple forums that their pocket supercomputer cannot accomplish the most basic task that even a $10 phone can manage, namely taking an incoming call.”
The problem occurs because of a fault in affected iPhone X touchscreens which means they don’t turn on for up to 10 seconds after a call comes in, stopping the user from answering. Apple confirmed to the FT that it is “looking into these reports.”
It is suspected a quick-fire iOS 11.2.6 release will be the answer since iOS 11.3 has a much bigger fault in its sights. In fact, iOS 11 has been so troublesome since it launched, that Bloomberg recently reported Apple has had to drop a number of iOS 12 features. This is to evolve it into one massive bug fix to “improve the performance of iPhone software after months of reported quality issues.”
So yes, an “iPhones fail at being phones” narrative is the last thing Apple needs. Then again, with no less than three flagship iPhone X models coming in 2018, the company must get these nagging problems addressed before the big arrival.
Especially if Apple is to justify the price hikes that are coming
