Ban T: A Star In The Making

Hip Hop in Botswana is one genre that is not consistent, there is so much talent but it blows hot and cold. New kid on the block, Baanthata Mokgwathi seems to be the answer to many Hip Hop fans in the country. To date, he has only released one single, the impressive ‘Naomi’ which has dominated the local airwaves recently.

His name sparks excitement when it gets mentioned, for a good reason though because this 19 year old is a force to be reckoned with. Ban T broke onto the hip hop scene when he was featured by the group Faded Gang on their song Why so faded. He however stamped his mark after the release of his first single titled Naomi. The song has become a national anthem on many private radio stations and night-clubs.

Ban T is viewed by many as the future of Botswana hip hop, an many have likened him to rappers in the Young Money Stable founded by famous American rapper Lil Wayne. Currently pursuing a Music Production and Sound Engineering course at the Academy of Sound Engineering in Johannesburg, the ambitious Ban T has set his sights on becoming the top selling local hip hop artist.
