BPL has added another new kid on the block. Mahalapye Hotspurs clinched automatic promotion to the beMOBILE Premiership after winning the 2015/16 Debswana First Division North title. Nicknamed Amahot, Hotspurs clinched the league title after beating Palapye All Stars 2-0 at the Serowe Sports Complex in Serowe on Saturday.
They finished at the top of the Debswana First Division North standings ahead of former Botswana Premier League (BPL) side ECCO City Greens. Amahot will now rub shoulders with the big boys after a long absence, which however, did not seem likely when the league started. Hotspurs’ promotion means the village of Mahalapye will have a representative in beMOBILE Premiership during the 2016/17 season.
Their local rivals BR Highlanders are set to be relegated from the beMOBILE Premiership at the end of the current season.
