President Duma Boko Awards Medals to Botswana Defence Force Personnel for Distinguished Service

President Duma Gideon Boko, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF), today honoured members of the BDF who have demonstrated exceptional service and good conduct. The award ceremony took place at the Sir Seretse Khama Barracks in Mogoditshane, where several distinguished personnel were recognised for their dedication and commitment to duty.

The medals awarded include:

  • Duty Code Order (DCO): Recognises members of the administrative and technical staff for their devotion to duty.
  • Pearl Jubilee Medal (PJM): Awarded to members who have completed 30 years of honourable continuous service in the BDF.
  • Distinguished Service Medal (DSM): Presented to commissioned officers who have completed not less than 20 years of continuous service with good conduct.
  • Long Service Order (LSO): Given to members of the other ranks who have had service within the BDF with good conduct for a period of not less than 15 years.
  • Foreign Service Medal (FSM): Awarded to members for honourable service outside the borders of Botswana on operational deployment, related foreign assignment, or collective training for a period not less than two months.

The President expressed his gratitude towards the recipients, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to the nation’s security and their exemplary conduct throughout their service. He reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting the BDF and ensuring that personnel are recognised for their invaluable contributions.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including the Minister of Defence and Security, who commended the awardees for their professionalism and dedication. The event underscored the importance of recognising and celebrating the achievements of those who serve in the defence forces, ensuring that their efforts are acknowledged and appreciated.
