President Advocate Duma Boko has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen of Botswana has the opportunity to own real property. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bonno Target 3 000 project in Gaborone this morning, President Boko declared that by the end of the nationwide Bonno Housing Project, at least 100,000 Batswana would hold title deeds to their homes.

“We want to afford every Motswana the opportunity to own real property,” President Boko stated, emphasizing the government’s vision of inclusive development and sustainable urbanization. His remarks were met with applause and optimism from local residents, dignitaries, and housing sector stakeholders present at the event.

The Bonno initiative, launched under the theme “A Home for Every Motswana”, begins with the construction of 3,000 housing units across selected urban and peri-urban areas. This initial phase marks the foundation of a broader and more ambitious plan to build 100,000 housing units nationwide.

The government aims to use the Bonno Housing Project not only to address the growing demand for affordable housing but also to promote social equity and economic empowerment. By providing secure land tenure and formal property ownership, the initiative is expected to boost individual wealth, stimulate local economies, and contribute to generational financial stability.

President Boko noted that the housing project would prioritize vulnerable groups, including low-income families, the youth, people living with disabilities, and elderly citizens. He further underscored that construction would incorporate modern, environmentally sustainable designs, and support local building contractors and artisans to ensure the project benefits the broader economy.

“This is more than just building houses—it’s about building dignity, stability, and the future of our people,” the president added.

The Bonno Target 3 000 phase will be rolled out in key areas with acute housing shortages, and construction is expected to begin immediately. The Ministry of Lands and Housing has assured the public that all qualifying citizens will be able to apply through a transparent and fair allocation process.

The Bonno Housing Project stands as one of the flagship undertakings of President Boko’s administration, aligning with his broader commitment to inclusive growth, job creation, and national development. As the project unfolds, thousands of Batswana will take a step closer to realizing the dream of homeownership and the security it brings.
