The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), His Excellency Elias M. Magosi, is actively engaging with global partners during his participation in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Spring Meetings taking place in Washington, D.C., USA, from 21 to 26 April 2025.

H.E. Magosi’s presence at this high-level global platform signals SADC’s firm commitment to strengthening international cooperation and forging strategic partnerships aimed at advancing the region’s socio-economic development agenda. The Spring Meetings bring together finance ministers, central bank governors, development experts, and policymakers from across the globe to deliberate on critical issues such as economic resilience, poverty reduction, climate financing, and sustainable growth.

In representing the 16-member regional bloc, the SADC Executive Secretary is using the opportunity to highlight the progress made within the region and to advocate for increased support from international financial institutions toward key development priorities. These include infrastructure development, industrialization, energy access, food security, and digital transformation.

“SADC is deeply committed to building resilient economies that are inclusive, competitive, and sustainable,” said H.E. Magosi. “Our presence at this global platform allows us to engage with influential partners and mobilize support for initiatives that will uplift the lives of millions of people in our region.”

Throughout the meetings, H.E. Magosi is expected to hold bilateral discussions with leaders of multilateral development banks, donor agencies, and private sector investors. These engagements are focused on identifying funding opportunities and technical support mechanisms that align with SADC’s Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020–2030.

The IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings serve as a vital space for SADC to raise awareness on the region’s development challenges and to showcase its readiness for strategic investment and collaboration. H.E. Magosi’s participation also aims to position SADC as a key voice on global policy issues impacting Africa, including climate change adaptation, youth employment, trade facilitation, and public health preparedness.

As global attention turns to inclusive recovery and sustainable development, SADC’s active role at international forums reaffirms its dedication to forging impactful partnerships that will drive progress across Southern Africa.
