The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Botswana, in collaboration with the government, is supporting small-scale farmers in the Okavango District to adapt to climate challenges and enhance agricultural productivity.

As part of this initiative, 400 cluster farmers in Sekondomboro, Mohembo East, and Etsha 8 recently received walk-behind tractors to improve farming efficiency. Additionally, their capacities were strengthened through training on the use of modern tools and climate-resilient agricultural practices, enabling them to transition toward commercialized farming.

With climate change posing a significant threat to food production, the project aims to equip farmers with sustainable solutions that enhance productivity while safeguarding the environment and food systems. By integrating climate-smart techniques, the initiative seeks to increase resilience among small-scale farmers and contribute to Botswana’s broader goal of achieving food security.

This support is a strategic response to Botswana’s agricultural challenges, ensuring that farmers in rural communities are empowered with the necessary resources and knowledge to sustain their livelihoods and strengthen the nation’s food supply chain.
