The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) is working on strategic interventions to curb the declining academic performance of students in Botswana. Recognizing the need for urgent reforms, HRDC aims to implement solutions that will enhance the education system and better equip students for future careers.

HRDC Chief Executive Officer, Alinah Segobye, highlighted the importance of reviewing the current curriculum as a fundamental step in addressing this challenge. Speaking to Yarona FM news, she emphasized that curriculum reform is necessary to ensure that students receive an education that aligns with modern industry demands and societal needs.

Segobye further noted that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic Education, HRDC is exploring innovative methods to provide students with access to diverse career pathways. The goal is to create a system that allows learners to pursue careers that align with their individual strengths and interests, ultimately improving student engagement and performance.

The initiative comes as part of a broader effort to bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring that students graduate with skills that are relevant to the job market. HRDC’s commitment to educational reforms signals a proactive approach to addressing academic challenges and preparing Botswana’s youth for a dynamic and competitive workforce.

Stakeholders, including educators, parents, and policymakers, have been encouraged to contribute to the discussions on curriculum reform and student development strategies. As these efforts unfold, HRDC remains focused on fostering an education system that promotes excellence and supports the diverse aspirations of students across the country.
