In recognition of women in the DJ industry, the Gaborone International Music and Concert (GIMC) Afrotech 6.0 will host a special event dedicated to celebrating female talent. The event, a mini pitso, will take place on March 29 at Game City Marquee as part of International Women’s Month celebrations.

The month of March is globally recognized by the United Nations as a time to celebrate women’s achievements, with International Women’s Day marked on March 8. Despite strides made in various sectors, women continue to face bias in certain industries, including the creative arts. The DJ platform, which has historically been male-dominated, is one such space where female artists have had to work harder for recognition.

This year’s GIMC Afrotech edition, themed “The Ultra-Feminine,” will be a groundbreaking event, as it is the first-ever women-only Afrotech gig in Botswana. The lineup features some of the country’s finest female DJs, including Kele, DJ Mis J, Bo-Kettle, Osaka Sun, DJ Rudo, Kutlo Scope, Nendiyo, and DJ Missy. These talented women will showcase their skills and highlight the strength of female representation in the electronic music scene.

The initiative seeks to not only celebrate women’s contributions to music but also inspire upcoming female DJs to pursue their passions in a field that has often been male-dominated. By creating a platform for women to shine, GIMC Afrotech 6.0 is setting a precedent for greater inclusivity and empowerment in the entertainment industry.

Music lovers and supporters of women in the arts are encouraged to attend and experience an electrifying night dedicated to female talent. The event promises to be a vibrant celebration of music, creativity, and the progress of women in Botswana’s DJ scene.
