Botswana will today join the global community in commemorating International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to honoring the achievements, contributions, and resilience of women. The national event, set to take place in Ramotswa, will be officially opened by the Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Ms. Lesego Chombo, under the theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment.”

This year’s commemoration aims to celebrate the vital role that women play in the development process while also recognizing the challenges they continue to face. The event will serve as a platform to reflect on past successes and struggles, with discussions centered on identifying solutions to persistent gender-based constraints.

Women across Botswana have made significant strides in various sectors, including politics, business, education, and science. However, gender inequalities still pose barriers to their full participation in economic and social development. The commemoration will highlight the importance of strengthening policies and programs that promote women’s rights, equal opportunities, and empowerment at all levels of society.

Minister Chombo is expected to emphasize the government’s commitment to advancing gender equality and fostering an inclusive society where women and girls can thrive without discrimination. The event will also feature testimonies from women leaders, entrepreneurs, and community champions who have contributed to Botswana’s progress.

As the nation joins the rest of the world in celebrating International Women’s Day, the focus remains on creating an environment where every woman and girl can achieve their full potential. The discussions and activities in Ramotswa will serve as a reminder of the collective responsibility to build a more equitable and just society for all.
