The Ministry for State President has received a series of generous donations from different organizations and companies to assist families and communities affected by the recent floods in Botswana. The donations, consisting of essential food supplies, bedding, and financial contributions, were handed over this afternoon to Minister for State President, Honourable Moeti Mohwasa, and Assistant Minister, Honourable Maipelo Mophuting.
Donations Received
During the handover, several organizations came forward to contribute towards relief efforts:
- Botswana Hindu Society donated 200 blankets, 100 two-kilogram bags of rice, and 50 tins of beans. These items are expected to provide immediate relief to displaced families who have lost their belongings due to the floods.
- Faheb, a local company, contributed 190 towels, 25 bed sheets, and pillows to help improve the living conditions of affected families, particularly those in temporary shelters.
- Duke Holdings made a financial donation of P200,000, which will be used to purchase additional supplies and support ongoing disaster response efforts.
Government’s Commitment to Fair Distribution
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Minister Mohwasa expressed deep appreciation to the donors for their generosity. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that the donated items reach those who need them the most, particularly vulnerable families in the hardest-hit regions.
“We are grateful for the continued support from organizations and private sector partners who have stepped forward to assist during this difficult time. These donations will go a long way in providing relief to affected families, and we will ensure that they are distributed fairly and efficiently,” said Minister Mohwasa.
Assistant Minister Mophuting also reassured the public that government agencies and local authorities would work closely to assess the needs of affected households and allocate resources accordingly. She encouraged other companies and well-wishers to come forward with additional support, as the impact of the floods continues to be felt across the country.
Ongoing Relief Efforts
The recent floods have left many families displaced, with damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods. The government has been working to provide emergency relief, including food, temporary shelter, and medical assistance. Efforts are also being made to evaluate long-term solutions to mitigate the effects of future flooding.
With the ongoing support from the private sector and humanitarian organizations, authorities remain hopeful that affected families will receive the necessary assistance to rebuild their lives. The Ministry for State President continues to welcome further donations as it works to ensure that all those impacted receive the help they need.
