In a bid to bring policing services closer to the community, the Botswana Police Service (BPS) officially opened the upgraded Lekgwapheng Police Station in Molepolole today, February 21, 2025. The station, which was previously a police post, has been transformed into a full-fledged facility to enhance security and law enforcement in the area.

The initial police post was built through the efforts of the Lekgwapheng ward community, embodying the spirit of volunteerism, self-reliance, and cooperation in response to rising crime rates. Construction of the facility began in February 2010 and was completed in May 2012 at an estimated cost of P400,000.

Officiating the opening, Minister for State President, Honourable Moeti Caeser Mohwasa, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a conducive environment for service delivery by investing in police infrastructure and necessary resources. He emphasized that the upgraded police station would significantly improve policing services in Molepolole, a village grappling with high crime levels due to its large population. He further noted that the new facility would complement the existing Molepolole Police Station to enhance law enforcement operations.

Providing an overview of the project, Commissioner of Police, Dinah Marathe, reiterated BPS’s dedication to ensuring public safety and security. She announced that the station would see an increase in manpower and the introduction of specialized units, including Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Traffic, and Gender and Child Protection services, among others. To supplement office accommodation, a caravan has also been provided.

Commissioner Marathe concluded by expressing gratitude to the government for its continued support in allocating adequate resources to BPS, ensuring effective policing and improved community safety. The upgraded Lekgwapheng Police Station is expected to bolster crime-fighting efforts and strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the local community.
