A 23-year-old man is set to appear before the Serowe Magistrate Court on Wednesday, facing charges of damaging property and encroaching onto a public road. The charges stem from an incident in December, where the suspect allegedly placed metal spikes along the Tshimoyapula – Serule road, resulting in several vehicles suffering punctured tyres.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Near Bagali, the suspect’s actions were discovered after a video began circulating on social media. The footage showed multiple metal spikes, known as “droppers,” placed along the road, leading to public concern and prompting an investigation.
Bagali confirmed that, while the road was rendered hazardous for drivers, fortunately, no one was injured or attacked in connection with the incident. However, the act of placing the metal spikes on a public road is seen as a serious violation of road safety regulations.
Following intensive investigations, the suspect was apprehended and charged. Bagali stated that the police are determined to ensure justice is served, especially given the risks posed by such reckless behavior.
The case is expected to proceed on Wednesday, and the court will consider the extent of the damage caused, as well as any potential legal precedents, in determining the outcome. The arrest and charges underscore the importance of maintaining road safety and ensuring that those who threaten public safety are held accountable.
