The Assistant Minister for State President, Maipelo B. Mophuting, is in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, representing Botswana at an ordinary meeting for Ministers responsible for Disaster Risk Management in Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries. Focus of the Meeting
The meeting aims to review progress on the implementation of decisions made during previous SADC Summits, Councils, and Ministerial meetings. It will also provide updates on ongoing disaster risk management initiatives and related programs in the region.

- Considering the Addendum to the SADC Humanitarian Appeal on El Nino.
- Assessing preparedness for the forecasted La Nina conditions, which may lead to significant climatic impacts such as floods.
- Exploring collaborative strategies for managing El Nino-induced drought and floods.
Botswana’s Contribution
Minister Mophuting is expected to deliver a presentation on Botswana’s efforts and experiences in disaster risk management. Additionally, she will participate in a Partners/Donor roundtable discussion focused on mobilizing resources and strengthening responses to El Nino-induced challenges in the region. The Minister is accompanied by senior government officials responsible for disaster risk management at the Ministry for State President.

The meeting was officially opened by the Honorable Vice President of Zimbabwe, General (Rtd) Dr. Constantino Chiwenga. In his opening remarks, Dr. Chiwenga emphasized the importance of regional collaboration and preparedness in mitigating the devastating effects of natural disasters across SADC countries.
