The inauguration ceremony, held at the High Court, was presided over by Chief Justice Terrence Rannowane and was attended by government officials, dignitaries, and an enthusiastic crowd. The event was broadcast live to a packed audience at the BTV auditorium, reflecting the excitement and anticipation surrounding President Boko’s rise to office.

In his inaugural address, President Adv. Boko emphasized the critical importance of taking the oath of office without delay. “Any postponement,” he asserted, “would leave the country without a leader.” This statement highlighted his commitment to upholding Botswana’s stability and the orderly transition of power, setting a tone of urgency and accountability for his administration.

President Boko also pledged to faithfully adhere to Section 37 of the Constitution of Botswana, which mandates that the President take and subscribe to the oaths prescribed by Parliament before assuming official duties. He quoted the provision, which states, “A person assuming the office of President shall, before entering upon the duties of that office, take and subscribe such oaths as may be prescribed by Parliament.” This commitment reflects his dedication to constitutional governance and the rule of law.

Boko’s ascension to the presidency brings with it high expectations, with many citizens hopeful that his leadership will address pressing national issues such as economic growth, youth employment, and the enhancement of Botswana’s democratic institutions. The new president’s legal background and dedication to the Constitution signal his intent to strengthen the country’s legal framework and uphold Botswana’s reputation as a stable and democratic nation.

As President Boko begins his tenure, he faces both opportunities and challenges in steering Botswana into a new era. With his focus on transparency, constitutional values, and decisive leadership, his presidency promises to shape the future of Botswana. The people of Botswana, along with the international community, will be watching closely to see how he fulfills his commitment to the nation’s progress.
