Outstanding Batswana Honoured
This morning, His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, the President of the Republic of Botswana, recognized and celebrated individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the nation. The awards ceremony, held in Gaborone, highlighted the remarkable achievements of Batswana who have demonstrated exceptional service and commitment to their country.
Among the awardees were members of the Botswana negotiation team involved in key negotiations with De Beers in both 2011 and 2023. Notably, Honourable Lefoko Moagi, the Minister of Minerals and Energy, received the esteemed Naledi ya Botswana award for his role as the lead negotiator during the recent discussions in 2023. This accolade reflects the team’s dedication and strategic efforts in securing beneficial agreements for Botswana’s mineral resources.
The awards were presented in four distinct categories:
- Naledi ya Botswana (NYB): This honour is awarded for outstanding service to the Republic of Botswana, recognizing individuals who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to the nation.
- The Presidential Order of Honour (PH): This award is conferred for efficient and devoted service, celebrating those who have consistently demonstrated dedication to their roles and responsibilities.
- The Presidential Order of Meritorious Service (PMS): This accolade is awarded to individuals, communities, or organizations across various fields for delivering services that benefit Botswana. It recognizes acts of courage or devotion to duty that have positively impacted the nation.
- The Presidential Certificate of Honour (PCH): This certificate is awarded for long and faithful service, acknowledging individuals who have shown commitment and loyalty in their professional endeavors.
