President Masisi to Participate in the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government in Harare, Zimbabwe

His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi, the President of the Republic of Botswana, will participate in the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled to take place on 17th August 2024 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The Summit, hosted by the Republic of Zimbabwe as the Incoming Chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), will be held under the theme, “Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustained Economic Growth and Development towards an Industrialised SADC.” The discussions will focus on reviewing progress in the implementation of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030, as well as receiving updates on key regional issues, including peace and security within the SADC region.

A significant highlight of the 44th SADC Summit will be the formal handover of the SADC Chairmanship from His Excellency Mr. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of Angola, to His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of Zimbabwe.

In the lead-up to the main event, several preparatory meetings will be held. The SADC Council of Ministers will convene on 13th-14th August 2024, followed by the SADC Organ Troika Summit on 16th August 2024.

On the margins of the Summit, SADC Heads of State and Government will engage in various high-level events, including visits to the Geo Pomona Waste Management Facility and the Museum of African Liberation, which showcases Africa’s rich cultural heritage and history of liberation.

President Masisi will be accompanied by Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Senior Government Officials. The President and his delegation are expected to return to Gaborone on 18th August 2024.
