BOTSWANA PROUD OF ITS ASSOCIATION WITH INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR DEMOCRACY AND ELECTORAL ASSISTANCE (IDEA)
His Excellency Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi has commended The International IDEA for its specific role of supporting and strengthening democratic institutions and processes around the world, while developing sustainable, effective and legitimate democracies such as Botswana.
When giving remarks today during High Level Dialogue on Comparative Experiences in Mineral Resources Governance in Africa he highlighted the commendable role played by the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC), in facilitating collaboration and coordination among African nations, for the sustainable development of mineral resources.
His Excellency informed the participants that Botswana’s remarkable story of development, democracy, accountability, and transparency has been built on the pillars of selfless and visionary leadership, a steadfast commitment to multi-party democracy, as well as the establishment of inclusive institutions.
When giving an overview of the conference, Secretary-General of International IDEA, Dr Kevin Casas-Zamora highlighted that hosting the dialogue is a great illustration of Botswana’s leadership on key democracy challenges globally.
The conference was held under the theme “Towards Sustainable Development: Harnessing Africa’s Mineral Wealth for Economic Growth, Social Equity, and Environmental Responsibility.”
