The Acting President of the Republic of Botswana, His Honour Mr. Slumber Tsogwane left for Nairobi, Kenya this morning to participate at the Special Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union on Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health (AFSH), scheduled from 7th to 9th May 2024.
The Summit will bring together stakeholders including the African Heads of State and Government, policymakers, representatives from the private sector, and other participants across the agriculture value chain.
Furthermore, discussions will center around, among others, a continental strategy to mitigate the high rates of soil nutrient deficiency in Africa due to low rates of fertiliser use by smallholder farmers, which results in low agricultural productivity. It will highlight the crucial role of fertiliser and soil health in stimulating sustainable productivity growth in the agricultural sector, particularly among impoverished communities.
His Honour and his delegation will return to Botswana on 10th May 2024.
